Emergency Financial Assistance: Keeping Families Afloat When It Matters Most
A sub-program of Resource & Referral, Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) provides short-term, critical support to individuals and families facing unexpected financial hardships. By offering targeted aid—such as gas cards every 3 months, grocery cards every 6 months, and an annual Emergency Fund of up to $200—EFA prevents small setbacks from becoming full-blown crises.
These modest but essential resources help cover utility bills, ID fees, and other urgent needs that, if unmet, could lead to job loss, missed opportunities, or homelessness. EFA supports over a thousand La Plata County residents each year, serving as a crucial buffer while clients work toward lasting stability and self-sufficiency.
By bridging temporary gaps, EFA keeps families on track, ensuring that one unexpected expense doesn’t trigger a domino effect toward poverty.
Because sometimes, a little help at the right moment can change everything.
